Internships:

(i) International Internships:

1) Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), Taiwan Summer Internship Program

ITRI is a national research organization, with a mission of conducting technological research, promoting industrial development, creating economic value and improving social welfare for Taiwan. It is not only Taiwan’s largest applied technology R&D institution, but also a pioneer in creating Taiwan’s high tech industry.

And each summer ITRI hosts 30-40 international students for its international summer internships of 2-3 months.

Who can apply: This program is open to graduate and undergraduate students currently enrolled at accredited 4-year colleges and universities.

Research Areas: In case you are eligible, check the 2014 ITRI internship openings here.

Choose up to 3 positions in which you are interested, and send your CV/resume along with a brief cover letter to the contact listed for each position.

Location: Taiwan

Duration: Interns should be available to work for at least 10 weeks in the period from May to August. Longer internships are also possible; dates can be flexible depending on student and department needs.

Stipend:

• Monthly stipend (before taxes): NT$24,000 – NT$36,000 per month, depending on student’s experience and department’s situation; if you are offered a position, the offer will specify the stipend and other details.

• Free on-site accommodation on ITRI campus - modern dormitories on a spacious campus with dining and recreational facilities

However the interns are responsible for their travel expenses to and from ITRI’s Taiwan campus.

Please note that these are rolling internships meaning that the positions would close as soon as ITRI finds a suitable candidate. So the earlier you apply, the better!

2) Charpak Scholarships - The Internship Program

Charpak Scholarships are different from the normal internship programs as they fund your research at a French institute. Before applying, you need to contact the professor by email and get his approval. Only then you can apply forthese scholarships.

Who can apply:

Applicant must:

• be an Indian national and reside in India.
• not more than 30 years old at the time of application.
• be currently enrolled at an Indian institution of higher learning.
• Last year students may also apply.

Research Areas: Engineering, Science and Economics

Location: Any French institute

Duration: 2-3 months (during May-July 2014)

Stipend:

• Free student visa, including CEF fee waiver(12500 INR approx).
• Monthly stipend of 310 euros for maximum 3 months. This stipend will complement the minimum allowance of 436 euros awarded to all interns in France interning for more than 8 weeks.
• Medical insurance coverage(around 300 Euros/year).
• Assistance to find affordable student accommodation.

How to Apply: You need to search the French colleges where you want to apply (that have departments of your field of interest). The best way to do this is to (obviously) google the top 50 schools and select 20 out of them. Now go to the (interested) department faculty page to get the email IDs of professors whom you wanted to apply. Remember always choose those professors who have similar field of interest in which you have done some thing strong or concrete. They people (profs) give more attention to your field of interest and the work you have done in it, instead of your CGPA/GPA/percentage/grades.

Without going into much details, we would recommend you to read these articles before applying:

1) How (not) to Lose Opportunities and Alienate Professors.

2) How to write an email/application for a short-term or summer research internship/project?

3) Can't read but will apply.

Once you get an approval from the professor, you can apply for these scholarships.

The last date to apply this year is March 17, 2014.
